The village of Broadway, often called one of the Cotswolds’ most charming spots, has gained a new attraction. A historic building on its High Street now houses House of George W. Davies, a boutique hotel, restaurant, and bar that mixes old-world charm with modern luxury.
A fashion leader’s Cotswold project
George Davies, a longtime resident with over 30 years in the area, created the hotel. His background in fashion shapes its design—a blend of country-house warmth and contemporary style that avoids the usual Cotswold clichés. The space feels both classic and current, appealing to visitors seeking something more refined than standard countryside stays.
The building carries layers of history. Its 17th-century exterior conceals medieval roots and later agricultural use. It once served as a doctor’s surgery before its latest transformation. Instead of treating it as a museum, the designers kept original beams, stonework, and quirks while adding modern touches like soft fabrics, sleek furniture, and updated bathrooms.
Rooms that blend history and modern comfort
The hotel has 10 uniquely designed bedrooms. Some occupy the main building’s historic rooms, while others fill larger courtyard suites in a modern annexe. A stay in a King Room showed careful attention to detail: exposed timber beams and stonework paired with a comfortable bed, air conditioning, and a Nespresso machine. The bathroom included a spacious rain shower, and the room remained quiet at night despite its High Street view.
Breakfast on the terrace featured locally sourced sausages, house-smoked trout, and fresh sourdough. Though the MODA restaurant was closed for refurbishment during the visit, it will reopen on September 9 under chef Greg Newman. The new autumn tasting menu will highlight Cotswold ingredients.

The bar, with its wood-burning stove and warm lighting, provides a relaxed yet elegant space. Guests can also enjoy the courtyard or garden terrace, moving easily between indoor and outdoor settings.
The hotel serves as more than just accommodation. Its location places Broadway’s High Street steps away, with galleries, shops, and nearby villages within walking distance. Without a car, visitors can hike to Broadway Tower or wander the village before returning for a drink.
Rates start at ÂŁ275 per night for two in a King Room, including breakfast. The price reflects its luxury status, but the experience justifies the cost.
For those who love the Cotswolds but prefer something beyond traditional country-house style, this hotel offers a fresh option. It honors the past while providing modern comforts in a building still tied to its history.
The address is 38-40 High St, Broadway WR12 7DT.
