Hyatt names Stephen Ho as new Asia Pacific president - hyatt asia pacific president
Udell joined Hyatt in 1982 as a management trainee in Singapore.

Hyatt has named Stephen Ho as its new Group President, Asia Pacific, effective January 1, 2027. He will replace David Udell, who has led the region since 2014 and will retire from the role at the end of this year. Udell will transition to a Senior Advisor position, focusing on leadership development and the company’s luxury segment.

Udell joined Hyatt in 1982 as a management trainee in Singapore. Over his career, he held key roles in food and beverage, including as the first General Manager of Park Hyatt Tokyo and later at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. He also oversaw regional and global operations before taking on the Asia Pacific presidency. His tenure saw the expansion of the Park Hyatt brand across the region and strengthened Hyatt’s luxury business.

Mark Hoplamazian, Hyatt’s Chairman, President, and CEO, stated that Udell’s leadership was instrumental in the region’s growth. He noted Udell’s strategic vision, owner relationships, and commitment to colleagues and guests as key factors in Hyatt’s success. The company expressed gratitude for Udell’s four decades of service and welcomed his continued support in an advisory role.

Ho, currently President, Greater China & Growth, Asia Pacific at Hyatt, brings over 40 years of hospitality experience. Before joining Hyatt in 2018, he served as President, Asia Pacific for Starwood Hotels & Resorts and as CEO, Greater China for Marriott International. Since joining Hyatt, he has led the company’s Greater China business and supported broader growth initiatives in the region.

Ho’s appointment follows a period of significant expansion for Hyatt in Asia Pacific. The region has seen increased demand for luxury properties and a shift toward high-end travel experiences. Hyatt’s move appears aimed at sustaining momentum rather than changing strategy. This approach is in line with a broader trend among hotel groups prioritizing operational stability over abrupt shifts during economic uncertainty.

In a statement, Ho said he was “honored” to succeed Udell and committed to building on the region’s foundation. He emphasized collaboration with teams, owners, and guests to create new opportunities. Hyatt has not yet announced a replacement for Ho’s current role but will make an announcement at a later date.
